Use of Artificial Intelligence

I want to be transparent about how I use machine learning and, more importantly, where I don’t use AI.

The Stories

The short stories are the heart of this project. They are entirely my creation.

I enjoy coming up with the stories and writing them. That’s what drives me, what gives me pleasure.

It would be absurd if I had the texts generated by generative AI and then uploaded them to the internet. I wouldn’t benefit from it either – after all, I don’t make any money from it.

However, I use AI language models as a coach and mentor. These systems are good (and fortunately also extremely patient) at finding weaknesses in phrasing and explaining to me why a paragraph is “bumpy” or what I could improve about it. My goal is not to get ready-made text modules that sound professional and just need to be copied. No, I want to actively learn how I can continue to improve my writing style.

The Images

The cover images and the photos on the home page were generated by image generators.

Admittedly, this is not particularly creative. However, they are only symbolic images intended to convey an initial mood. The stories would work just as well without them.

Therefore, I find the use of generators acceptable in this case.

The Translations

The basis for other language versions is a machine translation of the German text. Translation tools are already achieving a very high level here.

However, the translations are not error-free. Therefore, I check them carefully. I make sure that the meaning is accurate and that linguistic nuances of the original are also preserved. This certainly costs me several hours of rework, but I am happy to invest this in order to publish a good translation.

Of course, I will never achieve a native-speaker level. That’s why every short story that has not yet been proofread by a native speaker is marked accordingly.

Conclusion

I am convinced that AI is not a passing fad, but represents a similar cultural shift as the invention of the World Wide Web more than 30 years ago.

My work on this project has already shown me several times that the meaningful use of machine learning does lead to good results and that I can also develop myself further through it.
